BYOD in the Classroom
Students may bring digital devices into the classroom. These devices may include ipads, smart phones, lap tops, and other tablets. Students bring these in under the conditions that they are responsible for their own device and that they are used respectfully. BYOD in the classroom means that students can access information as well relevant and useful applications in an efficient and timely way.
Some schools offer programs where they supply tablets to students who have limited access to digital devices at home. So between school and student owned devices, every student is granted access to a device. As of 2014, just over 60% of Ontario schools have adopted, in some way, the Bring Your Own Device model (BYOD). Between smart phones, tablets and laptops, students can bring to school their personal devices under the condition that they are responsible for their own device and that they are used respectfully. The BYOD model bridges the gap between the digital world and the real world, allowing students to access information and interact with their daily learning in a relevant, current, and accessible way.
