The 4 C's of Technology
By allowing students to use technology in the classroom, you
open the door to leading them to find information, sift through it and discern
for themselves what they believe the "right" answer would be to any
question you ask. The implementation of
technology in the classroom allows students to share their uniqueness more than
ever before. They are only limited by their own inhibitions.
Due to the enormous amount of information available to them via the Web, our students have the ability to be critical thinkers more often, because they always have to sort (curate) the information they consume from the Internet. The mode of communication has changed in the 21 century. With access to learning management systems, texting and e-mail, there is no reason students can't always be "in the know" about homework and lessons. We now have the ability to communicate with ease with our students and parents more than ever before. It takes a village to raise a child! Now creativity has more outlets, including slide presentations, graphic organizers, e-book creations, video presentations, whiteboard app creations and podcasts. Students love options in creation, and their audience can be the entire world now, not just the teacher of the 23 other students in their classroom. |
Creation |
Allowing Students to use apps, web, and software to seek knowledge to engage the creative juices, to inspire the inquiry and critical thinking
|
Consumption |
Allows students to consume information in whatever way possible using technology devices. This can be in forms of apps, videos, web searches, eBooks etc.
|
Curation |
Information. Teaching our students how to sift, sorting, arranging, and publishing all the information available to them on the Web is a valuable tool.
|
Connection |
FaceTime, Google Hangouts, Skype, e-mail or Twitter posts, teachers are involving others outside the four walls of their classrooms and allow students to link up globally. The students can also join each other in conversations, group projects and share on Google drive, docs etc.
