It’s an event that puts the 21st-Century learning tools in the hands of students, parents, and fellow educators. BYOD allows students to bring and use their own personal electronic devices— tablets, laptops, netbooks, to school. With teacher’s approval, the devices in the classroom allow students to access and save information from the Internet. Technology has provided our students with a social, collaborative world. They thrive on teamwork and figuring things out with their friends. Students today are constantly exposed to digital media and technologies. Being able to effectively access information is almost a requirement to be an active participant of today's society Technology is also used for parent-teacher communication in schools. Schools are using online newspapers, and continuously updating their school web pages. Teachers are creating Google sites, blogs, Moodle sites for their classrooms. This is all to increase communication to parents about what their children are learning. In addition, if students forget their homework or do not remember when their assignment is due, they can easily look online for the information. Funding have been cut over the years for text books, BYOD supports moving to the free online resources which helps students access the information needed without costing more for textbooks. It is much easier to access internet websites, than it is too look at numerous books about the same topic. The use of technology is also important in reaching every student’s learning preferences and needs, for those who may not have their own device most schools have purchased “Chromebooks” and have computer labs. |
